上海协和双语教科学校融合课程教师访谈，Mr. Jesus Pardo，Master’s degree in Resolution and Prevention of Conflicts ，11 years of teaching experience ，Qualified international Physical Education, ESL and Spanish teacher。

Physical Education at SUIS JKEMW is not a subject just for play and exercise, but a subject to promote a healthy lifestyle and teamwork, therefore wide range of sports activities are provided here, for instance badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, football, floor-ball, basketball and cricket. This time we are delighted to welcome our Head of PE, Mr. Jesus Pardo to talk about his educational philosophy and his story and SUIS JKEMW.

在当代教育中，体育能力的重要性正在逐年提升，在协和教科融合课程部，体育从不是一个不起眼的副课，我们更加提倡通过我们的体育课程可以激发学生对体育的热情并同时养成健康的生活状态和学会团队合作，所以我们课程部提供丰富的体育项目和专业的教学，例如羽毛球，飞盘，足球，地板球，篮球和板球，辅助学生找到属于自己的运动潜能。这次我们邀请了体育组组长Mr. Jesus Pardo 来谈谈他的教育理念和与SUIS JKEMW 的渊源。

1 Why do you want to join SUIS JKEMW?

SUIS JKEMW was one of the schools interested in my CV and after a successful interview, I was invited for a campus tour. Mr. Flower showcased the impressive state of the art sports facilities and how powerful and organized sports program is, which I found quite impressive.

协和教科融合课程部一直是我最感兴趣的学校之一，在面试成功后，我被邀请去参观了校园。副校长Mr. Flower展示了令人印象深刻的最先进的体育设施，以及强大而有组织的体育项目，都让我印象深刻。

I had another opportunity to visit the campus during one of the busy days for ECAs and I have to admit that I was extremely awed, the whole school was involved in a huge sports program, displaying an amazing sports culture. 

我也有幸参观了ECA课程，不得不承认，我感到非常震惊，整个学校展示了令人惊叹的体育文化，也有很多集体参与的体育项目， 

That day I met Miss. Xi, Mr.Flower, Mr.Phil, and a few more teachers. The school community made me feel that at Jiaoke my subject will have the importance I was looking for and I left the campus with the sensation that this school is in line with my values and I would enjoy working here.

在这个校区，我找到了体育学科的意义，也感受到了整个EMW课程部非常重视体育教学。我发现我和学校的教学理念非常契合这也是为什么我这么热爱我现在的工作。

2 Your previous education and working experience?

I am a qualified international Physical Education, ESL and Spanish teacher. I also hold a Master’s degree in Resolution and Prevention of Conflicts. With 11 years’ experience in teaching and coaching students, between G1 and G12. 

我具备国际体育教育，ESL和西班牙语教学资格，拥有Resolution and Prevention of Conflicts的硕士学位，同时我还具有11年的1年级至12年级的丰富教学经验。

When I finished my teaching degree, I got a sports scholarship to teach Spanish Language in Minnesota, EEUU. That moment changed my life and was the beginning of my international career. Working abroad (USA and China) has given me the opportunity to develop skills in teaching with second language (English). 

当我完成我的教师学位时，我得到了体育奖学金，那一刻改变了我的生活，是我国际职业生涯的开始。我在美国明尼苏达州教过西班牙语，在国外工作（美国和中国）使我有机会发展第二语言，英语的教学技能。

3 What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

Q＆A

When I arrived to Minnesota in 2015, I was not able to speak any English at all, however, after consistent effort to improve my Second Language skills, I became a bilingual teacher. From that moment, my caring attitude and empathy helped me to quickly develop a warm rapport with the students. I connected with the students who had difficulties and lack of confidence to learn a second language, who eventually succeeded. Because of this, I consider my passion for education and the ability to form good and healthy relationships with students my greatest professional skills.

当我在2015年来到明尼苏达州时，我根本不会说任何英语，然而，在坚持不懈地努力提高我的第二语言能力后，我成为了一名双语教师。从那一刻起，通过我自己的学习经验，我迅速与学生建立了紧密的关系，也帮助那些在学习第二语言方面有困难和缺乏信心的学生获得了成功。正因为如此，我认为我对教育的热情以及与学生形成良好和健康关系的能力是我最大的专业技能。

4 What subject do you teach and how do you usually teach in class?

I work as a Physical Education Teacher sharing my knowledge and passion about sports, physical education, and a healthy lifestyle. As Theodore Roosevelt said “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.  I apply this quote to my students; I believe that generating intrinsic motivation in them and making my learners realize they are an important part of my daily life, they get and open up to me as their teacher and learn in an enjoyable environment.

我是一名体育教师，与大家分享我对体育、体育教育和健康生活方式的知识和热情。正如西奥多-罗斯福所说："人们不关心你知道多少，直到他们知道你有多关心"。我把这句话应用到我的学生身上。让我的学生意识到他们是我日常生活的重要组成部分，他们就会对我这个老师敞开心扉，在愉快的环境中学习。

5 How do you usually design your course?

Q＆A

I design my PE lessons thinking about how I could achieve my objectives while at the same time making sure my students enjoy their classes. Understanding and teamwork are very important in PE, that’s why I like to use a comprehensive focus, fomenting understanding, enquiring, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

我在设计我的体育课时，会考虑如何实现教学目标的同时确保我的学生喜欢课程内容。在体育课上，理解和团队合作是非常重要的，这也是为什么我喜欢提倡重点教学，探究理论、和促进健康的生活方式。

6 Any creative or valuable teaching method you want to share?

Teaching sports in a second language is always a big challenge, but teachers know how to find a way to make sure students understand every lesson. In my case, I would like to share a few teaching tricks:

用第二语言进行体育教学总是一个很大的挑战，但老师们知道如何找到合适的方法来确保学生理解每一堂课。就我而言，我想分享一些教学技巧。

Teaching Tricks

Create and adapt activities to generate a challenge for all students.

创造和实时调整活动方案，让所有的学生都可以融入其中

Mix short periods of knowledge learning with fun activities to apply that knowledge in real-game situations.

将短期的知识学习与有趣的活动结合起来，在真实的游戏环境中应用这些知识。

Make sure students’ participation is as high as possible.

确保学生的参与度越高越好。

Be on time with the equipment ready and a big smile.

准时准备好设备，带着灿烂的笑容。

Demonstrate to the students the new drills or complicated parts of the lesson.

向学生演示新的练习或课程的复杂部分。

Utilize visual support to maximize their learning and call students’ attention such as videos, posters or a magnet board for quick explanations.

利用视觉支持来最大限度地提高他们的学习效果，并唤起学生的注意，如视频、海报。

Make your students feel special and that each of them has potential.

让你的学生知道每个人都是独立的个体，都有自己可以发掘的潜能。

7 Any interesting stories happen in school that you can share?

Q＆A

The implication of the school community was the engine to maintain the motivation of our students. Exhibition games between Teachers and Students have become popular and important. Generating motivation for our students and also being a perfect way to get to know my students and coworkers. I can say that, at Jiaoke, we are building a great community through sports activities.

学校的体育氛围是影响学生积极性的重要元素之一，体育氛围不止涵盖了学生，也包括各科老师们对体育的热情，所以今年我们举办了多场的师生联赛，让学生们可以不止和体育老师对决，而是让很多其他科目的老师下场比赛，让学生们感受到体育不止局限于体育课。 可以说通过多样的师生联赛，我们融合部也变的更加紧密和友爱。
