Stimulate the inner strength for growth

G12,Class 1,Jenny Wang王俏懿

Do not go gentle into that good night.

——preface

If there was ever a moment when I felt like I really started to decide to be an international student working hard on an international course, I would have said it was in my 10th grade year.  And I can admit without hesitation that this is my real start at Wenlai International High School.

Actually, when I first entered the international school, I was quiet and unwilling to accept it.  This is because of my perennial poor English skills, both in listening, speaking, reading and writing.  I regretted my choice and thought that I could not be integrated into an international school because I could hardly understand the specific content of every course taught by foreign teachers. Other than that, I was totally dependent on my friends for help.  Maybe I would have been very interested in becoming a hat of Ivy Shi or Sabrina Lu, so that I would not have to speak English with anyone and would listen to them to answer all their questions.

Among the courses taught by foreign teachers, my worst subject is undoubtedly Physical Science.  Obviously, I could not timely understand the basic knowledge of physics and chemistry through the English class, so THAT I constantly wanted to give up, and this situation became more and more serious after I always got below C (or even a lot of F).  Personally, since there is no way to solve the problem, it is better to simply not care about it.

This story started in class before I was about to give up physical Science. I can still recall what Dr.Marcopoulos told me in that class -- about waves.  The emergence of these more complex words, much harder to faze than Acceleration, scared me so much that I felt I couldn't look them up at the speed of the PowerPoint presentation in class.  "It's unbearable."  That's probably closest to what I thought at the time.  I even thought to myself during that class that I would never take an AP course in physics.  At the end of that class, perhaps because of the last bit of defiant spirit, I stayed at my seat and continued thinking about frequency until all the students had left the room. At that moment, Marco finished cleaning his desk and came over to me and asked if I could help him.  In fact, I was very nervous at that time, because the friends who could help me with the translation were not around me, which made me nervous and afraid of the help that had not been started. As I mentioned before, I always bring my friends who are good at English when I have to go to meet foreign teachers, because I think I can't communicate with them properly at my level. But at that time, I knew very well that without help, I would not be able to understand the long wave or short wave problem, at least in the short term, so I accepted the help with the attitude of making every possible effort , and before that, I had little hope of understanding these words. But I soon changed my mind, because Marco found that I could not understand the complicated English he spoke, so I changed the teaching strategy -- this was the first time I saw this kind of teaching method, that uses body language to explain about long waves and short waves. He tucked his hands into his sleeves as much as possible and mimicked the difference between long and short waves by varying the frequency at which he shook his sleeves.  Soon, in less than ten minutes, I successfully understood the theme of the class and the problem that bothered me.  It is no exaggeration to say that this may be the first time for me to truly understand a physical Science class.  And after that, I never thought about giving up on any subject.

In the first semester of grade 10, I only got a C+ in the final physical Science assessment, but I was very satisfied. I had maintained a D- level in this course for a long time at the beginning.  However, in the second term, things got better and better, and I even got an A- overall at the end of the term.  Perhaps AT that time, I could not have imagined that I could achieve such scores in a subject that I had been taking F's and wanted to give up. In grade 11, I chose AP Physics and finally got 4 points in the AP exam.

I am still grateful for that physical Science class two years ago and Marco who came to me and tried to help me.  Maybe it was insignificant to him, but to me at that time, it affected me for a long time, even now.  That lesson taught me not only about the difference between long and short waves, but also that no student should ever give up, because no teacher ever gives up on any student.  As in the noted poem: "Do not go gentle into that good night."

G12,Class 1,Jin Wang王锦奇

Thanksgiving comes from the United States. On this day, Americans of all faiths and backgrounds express their gratitude to God and thank God for the good luck he has brought them. In fact, it is not just God who deserves gratitude. We should be grateful to our parents, friends, classmates, teachers and so on. At the same time, we should also thank the life we have now and all the beautiful things around us. For me, the person I should thank most is my classmate Tyler

Tyler is my classmate. He is very tall and his appearance is not very outstanding, but he has a personality charm that makes everyone like him very much. He is a very optimistic person about life. No matter what difficulties he encounters, he can always keep smiling; He is a strong man. No matter how difficult it is, he can't beat him; He is also a kind man. He can always help others when they need help.

I still remember a PE class in the past. The teacher asked us to run for warm-up. A classmate named Wayne accidentally fell down while running, and his leg rubbed and broke the skin. He lay on the runway with a painful expression. Tyler saw it and was very worried. He immediately ran to ask him about his situation. When he saw his classmate was so sad, he was so anxious. After a while, he seemed to have made some decision. He directly carried Wayne on his back and took him to the infirmary. Wayne is a very strong man. It's hard to imagine how much effort Tyler took to put Wayne on his back. The doctor simply bandaged Wayne, and then Tyler carried him back to the classroom and told him to be careful. Wayne was very moved and cried. Tyler comforted him and smiled. It's really moving to me.

There is another thing that I can't forget. At the beginning of school, everyone was not familiar with each other. Because I am a very introverted and shy person, I dare not take the initiative to communicate with others, so I have no friends. Tyler found out and came to chat with me. After school, he also invited me to play games. I found that his average ranking in the game was one of the highest in the whole game. Many of his game characters have won high rankings, and several of his characters such as Lao Fuzi and Xia Houdon are of the highest rank in the whole country. It turned out that he was excellent in all aspects. When we were going to do our group homework, he invited me to work with him. And when we did our homework, he always encouraged us. When we were in trouble, he was always enthusiastic to help us. Finally, we got good marks for this homework, but I know Tyler is the one who should be praised most.

All these things show that Tyler is a very good person. Thanksgiving is coming soon. I also want to express my sincere thanks to him.
