The journey of a box of medicine

“疾病时时须药物，衰迟处处少交朋。”当我们生病时，需要用药物治疗。

When we are sick, we need to be treated with drugs. How does a box of medicine produced for people to use?

3月27日，二年级的全体同学带着这个问题，津津有味地聆听了一场名为《一盒药的旅程》的精彩讲座，主讲人为P2C沈恩萱同学的爸爸沈耿先生。

On March 27th, all the students from Grade 2 listened to a wonderful lecture about "The Journey of a Box of Medicine". The keynote speaker was Mr. Shen Geng, the father of Shen Enxuan from P2C.

沈爸爸首先让孩子们回忆自己服药的感受，轻松的交流快速拉近了距离，活跃了气氛。接着，他介绍了东西方药物发展简史，并例举了神农、孙思邈、李时珍、屠呦呦等为中医药发展和人类健康事业做出的重大贡献。然后，沈爸爸分别从药物发现、临床前研究、临床试验和上市四个阶段，详细介绍了一个现代新药，从研发到问世的全流程。

他指出，医药创新领域有个著名的“双十”定律，即一款创新药的研发往往需要耗费十年时间、花费十亿美元，可见整个流程是非常漫长的。他运用了恰当的比喻，使抽象枯燥的概念和现象变得形象有趣、生动易懂。

Mr Shen first reminded the children of their feelings when they took medicine. The relaxed communication quickly narrowed the distance and energised the atmosphere. Then, he introduced a brief history of the development of Eastern and Western drugs, and cited Shennong, Sun Simiao, Li Shizhen, Tu Youyou and their major contributions to the development of traditional Chinese medicine and human health. Then, Mr Shen introduced the entire process of developing a modern new drug from its development to its release in detail. It includes four stages: drug discovery, preclinical research, clinical trials and marketing.

He pointed out that there is a famous "double ten" law in the field of pharmaceutical innovation, that is, the research and development of an innovative drug often takes ten years and one billion dollars, which shows that the whole process is very long. He used appropriate metaphors to make abstract and dull concepts and phenomena vivid, interesting, and understandable.

最后，沈爸爸让大家用一个词，概括一下一个现代新药产生的过程，同学们郑重其事地举起小手，有的提到了坚持，有的提到认真，有的提到细致，还有的提到勇敢，更有甚者关注到了团队等。通过沈爸爸的讲座，同学们认识到，新药的诞生过程是曲折而艰辛的，充满了失败和挑战。研发成功的背后有无数医药工作者的辛勤付出。



为了保证新药的有效性和安全性，他们数十年如一日的辛劳耕耘、默默奉献，面对失败坚韧不拔、顽强拼搏，在团结协作、力求突破中取得进展。他希望，未来有同学能加入到这支队伍中来，为人类健康事业奉献自己的力量。

Finally, Mr Shen asked everyone to use a word to summarize the process of the emergence of a modern new drug. The students mentioned persistence, seriousness, meticulousness, courage, and even paid attention to the team work. Through Mr. Shen's lecture, students realized that the birth process of new drugs was tortuous and arduous, full of failures and challenges. Behind the success of research and development is the hard work of countless medical workers.

In order to ensure the effectiveness and safety of new drugs, they have worked tirelessly for decades, persevered in the face of failure, fought tenaciously, and made progress through unity and collaboration, striving for breakthroughs. He hopes that in the future, some students can join this team and dedicate yourself to the development of human health.

古语有云“民惟邦本，本固邦宁”。健康是人民最切实的需求，也是人全面发展的基础，关系千家万户的幸福。药品，作为一种特殊的商品，直接关系着人民群众的身体健康和生命安全，确保研制成的新药的安全就是最大的确保民生的安全。

As the old saying says, "The people are the foundation of the country, and only when the country is fundamentally stable can it be peaceful." Health is the most practical need of the people, and it is also the foundation of people's all-round development, which is related to the happiness of thousands of families. Medicine, as a special commodity, is directly related to the physical health and life safety of the people. Ensuring the safety of the new drugs developed is the greatest to ensure the safety of people's livelihood.

治国有常，利民为本。沈爸爸带来《一盒药的旅程》的讲座，无疑在小朋友们心中种下了一颗永远跟党走，热爱祖国的种子。一张张稚嫩的小脸上，踌躇满志，立志要通过努力学习，长大后为民造福，创造美好生活。

Governing the country is always based on the benefits of the people. Mr Shen's lecture undoubtedly planted a seed of always following the party and loving the motherland in the hearts of the children. They determined to study hard to benefit the people and create a better life when they grow up.

这次家长课堂，不仅让孩子们新了解了一种职业，也使他们对自己的未来充满希望和期待。而孩子有了目标，就有了前进的动力，这对学业进步，甚至健全人格，都起到了积极正向的作用。

This parents' class not only gives children a new understanding of a profession, but also fills them with hope and expectation for their future. When children have goals, they have the motivation to move forward, which has a positive impact on academic progress and even on improving their personality.
