P1 Fundraising Event

XLIS P1A & B students recently organized a fundraising fair to support the local charity, Little Fish. This event was a culmination of their hard work on the ‘How we organize ourselves’ unit, with the central idea that ‘many products go through a process of change before they are used or consumed’. To prepare for the fair, students demonstrated their understanding of the central idea through their participation in various transdisciplinary activities that spanned across different subjects, such as UOI, maths, language, visual arts, and makerspace.

The IB learner profile attribute of caring was prominently displayed during this event as the students aimed to raise money for children from poorer, rural communities who lack access to education. Their dedication and hard work in organizing and executing the fundraising fair is an excellent example of how IB students embody the attribute of caring.

The fair showcased the students' thinking skills as they brainstormed ideas for raising funds and selling student-made products.The students practiced research skills by conducting market research through a survey that they designed and conducted with other primary classes to see which products they would like to buy. The data from the survey was then analyzed using tallies and bar-charts, demonstrating the students' abilities to think critically and analyze information.

The fair also provided an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their creative thinking skills. They designed and created carnival-style games for the fair, showcasing their ability to think outside the box and come up with unique ideas. The students also created posters to advertise the event, demonstrating their visual arts and literacy skills.

The students' efforts paid off as they managed to raise a total of 7250RMB for the charity. This is a remarkable achievement, and it is a testament to their hard work and dedication. The event also provided a platform for the students to demonstrate their communication and social skills as they interacted with other students and parents during the fair.

Overall, the ‘How we organize ourselves’ unit provided an opportunity for the students to develop their learner profile attributes of caring and thinker, and their ATL research skills.
