兴趣成为内驱力，站上更大的世界舞台

只有对某一学科产生浓厚的兴趣，才会真正投入其中，不断提出问题、用观察、交流等方式来开展自主学习，推动进一步的探索，打开更广阔视野的同时，也站上更大的世界舞台。

九年级的Zhixuan从2020年开始接触商赛起，就对其产生了浓厚的兴趣。面对自己的所爱，Zhixuan全情投入到了对商赛的研究当中，他在短短两年中参加了9场商赛挑战，逐级进阶，在2022年世界青年经济论坛总决赛初中组别，带领队伍，取得总决赛铜奖和五项单项奖的出色战绩！

独乐乐不如众乐乐，Zhixuan一直在积极倡议和推动NACIS商赛队伍的壮大。

我希望NACIS初中和高中同样对经济和商科感兴趣的同学们，能共同组成商赛俱乐部，一边不断学习提高，一边不断参加比赛，一起组队，在更多国际赛事中，取得更好的成绩。

上周，全新的NACIS商赛校队进行了新学年的第一次训练课，经过层层考验的“商业精英”们，观看了以往比赛实战的视频，同学们把各自的兴趣板块以及相关基础，覆盖到商赛的相关部分，进行合作和分工。Zhixuan在课上分享了他参赛的经验，更令他感到动力十足是，因为对商赛的喜爱，他有了一群志同道合的队友。

Zhixuan说道，“商科和经济方面的探索确实非常有意思。通过这方面的比赛和学习，我不仅了解了公司的运作，企业的社会责任，也体会到了团队协作、队员们彼此成就的快乐。我认为无论将来学习什么专业或工作，这份初心都将是我们前行的动力。”

就在上周四，44名九年级的同学们，在Christopher Pratt, Ellie Lingenfelder，Sarah Butler等6位老师的带领下，背上行囊，踏上为期三天两夜的淀山湖探索之旅。这次的探索旅程是为明年三月爱丁堡公爵奖铜奖远足探险准备的预演。

参加这次探索的44名同学，需要独立分组完成每天至少7个小时的徒步及活动。而在这个基础之上，还需完成Skill（技能）、Service（服务）等自我提升的学习任务，有的需要研判地形，带领组员完成旅程；有的观察当地的文化，记录下沿途的所见所闻；有的需要关注每个成员在徒步过程的心理状态变化……

首次参与爱丁堡公爵奖远足预演的Bruce同学，是徒步和野生动物保护爱好者。因为对徒步旅行和大自然的热爱，这次34公里行程，他享受其中：

这次徒步，我们第一次独立在野外这么长时间，不仅学会了很多露营装备和器械的使用。我们很多同学因为喜欢徒步和户外探险聚在一起，两条腿酸胀得不行，但看到沿途的风景，就觉得所有的辛苦和付出都是值得的。

分在另外两个组的Tim，Jessie 和Deliths也对这次探索意犹未尽，

我之前没有体验徒步远足，但是经过这次，我觉得我喜欢上了这项活动。一路上我们遇到了很多困难，也遇见了很多和沿途风景一样美好善良的陌生人，所有的经历都像化成了一股让我们更加坚韧的动力，让我们坚持到终点，还享受到了巨大的快乐。

背着近30斤的背包每天行进7个小时，对我们的身体和心理都是很大的挑战，途中我想过无数次要放弃，但一路队友们都在相互鼓劲打气，帮助彼此，让我有了走下去的底气。

抵达终点的时候我们都在欢呼，就好像所有的疲惫都消失了一样。但这次行程也暴露了一些我们准备过程中的不足，我忘记带睡袋了，但这一点也不影响我在整个过程中收获的喜悦和成就感，我已经开始期待下一次的徒步了！

爱丁堡公爵奖远足探险对于我们的学生来说，无疑是把兴趣与技能锻炼进行重塑的蜕变之旅：把自己感兴趣的研究方向和学习任务带到挑战身体和心理极限的野外探险中，锻炼问题解决、沟通技能、合作技能与创造力，同时也源源不断地给学生提供自主学习和探索的动力。

兴趣激发潜力，探索自我成长的极限

在NACIS种类多样的体育校队里，在各自热爱的领域，同学们尽情投入与享受。他们享受每一次奋力拼抢；享受汗水浸湿衣服的酣畅淋漓；享受来自队友的信任和鼓励；享受与志同道合的人一起，为同一个目标努力；享受运动带来的最简单而纯粹的快乐。

体育教育不仅让孩子们拥有强健的体魄，让学生在身心都在发生变化的成长阶段，促成他们身心的成熟，磨砺积极进取的精神，更让他们了解和突破自己潜力的极限。

对于从两岁开始就与泳池结下不解之缘的Jayden来说，不论寒暑，每天有3个小时的时间泡在水里，已经习以为常。Jayden五岁开始正式接受专业游泳训练，现在刚进入六年级的他，却有着7年专业游泳运动员生涯，游泳已经变成了他生命中不可缺少的一部分。每当说起游泳，可以看到他本就澄澈的眼里闪着光：

游泳让我有勇气不断突破自己的极限。我从不觉得训练是一件艰苦的事情，因为当你真的热爱这项运动的时候，你都会把自己放在一个积极的环境里，不会去为自己的未来设限，才能让自己变得更加专业。游泳教会了我不断进步、不断超越自己，努力一定会有回报！

去年，在美国游泳协会北京的成绩认证赛上，Jayden游进了百米仰泳1分16秒的大关。而就在这短短一年的时间，他的仰泳成绩突破到了1分10秒的全新速度领域，并获得了即将在下月举行的上海市第十七届运动会入场券（上海市运动会是全市最高规格、最大规模的综合性运动会和青少年体育赛事，每隔四年举办一届）。6秒，在平常看来，或许就是惊鸿一瞥，但对于在水中行进的Jayden来说，这是无数次的入水、挥臂、打腿、翻滚……

“我希望能在市运会上夺金，但我更希望的是可以继续探索自己的潜能，突破自己，拉大与别的选手间的差距，一骑绝尘。”

我们相信，每一个NACIS热衷于运动的孩子，和Jayden一样，都在用热爱和汗水，奔赴新的速度，新的高度和精神的深度——在做每一件事情时都投入100%的热情与毅力，并努力成为一个坚韧勇敢的人。

当热爱与运动撞个满怀，从一场场比赛中，我们见证学生们的热爱和坚持，传递他们积极、坚韧、不轻言放弃的力量。校队中的每个人都有很多侧面和擅长的领域，但在体育竞技场上，在各自的队伍中，他们就是敢于突破、全力以赴的“运动员”。

兴趣点亮自信，创造未来更多可能性

在NACIS的舞台上找到自信、快乐与满足，是从NACIS管弦乐队，合唱团，民乐团，戏剧团的“艺术家们”脸上最容易见到的表情。

在每天放学后的时间，我们总能在剧院中、琴房、舞蹈教室中捕捉到美妙的音乐和欢呼，在这里我们见证了一个个“艺术新星”的诞生。不论是在正式舞台上的一场场戏剧演出，还是日常在练习室千百次的排练，NACIS都在用专业为每个热爱音乐、舞蹈和戏剧的学生搭建舞台和创作氛围。

今年的音乐剧《海绵宝宝》将在12月份进行首演，从开学起，所有的排练，一直钟情于音乐剧和表演的Fairy同学一次也没有落下过。谈及自己进入《海绵宝宝》音乐剧剧组的过程，Fairy说这是她进入NACIS以来迈出的一小步，但却是NACIS给了她自由选择和自信的一大步。

《海绵宝宝》剧其实从上学期就开始选角筹备了，而我这个学期刚加入NACIS。但当我跟我的班主任老师和表演艺术老师说我很喜欢音乐剧，并且想尝试之后，他们不但没有因为角色的限制拒绝我，反而非常积极和真诚地帮助我。

我们珍视每一个孩子的兴趣，也鼓励他们去发现自己的兴趣。当他们融入在自己感兴趣的事物中，他们获得的成就感是别的活动无法比拟的，同时他们也会越来越对自己有信心。

除了音乐剧，Fairy还加入了学校的合唱团，她说，自己热爱表演，也喜欢唱歌，没有理由不去为之付出努力。当每一次站到舞台上，无论是多小的角色，合唱里的每一次和声，她都可以在聚光灯下释放自我，收获自信。

未来，NACIS会有更多表演艺术作品诞生，透过不同艺术的体验，加深学生对不同文化的认知，使他们在拥有精湛表演艺术技艺的同时也富有自信心及同理心。

现在的世界瞬息万变，有些知识，可能会随着时间而被遗忘、淘汰；而从自己的兴趣爱好中所获得的自驱力，胜任力和自信，都将把孩子们的热爱转化为卓越，让他们受益终身。而此时，教育的维度，成长的道路，都将不断拓宽、衍生，为未来创造出更多可能。

Mr. Gu Mingyuan, president of the Chinese Education Society, said that "There is no learning without interests". We are committed to encouraging every child to find their interests, stick with them, and make them more meaningful. At NACIS, we can always see many dedicated figures. They may focus on writing in the classroom, or participate in heated discussions, or sweat on the court, or get immersed in a melodious melody. During the course of growing up, students need develop physical quality, expand knowledge, and build a rich inner world.  They are also encouraged to pursue excellence and achieve their dreams based on their interests.

TURN INTERESTS INTO DRIVING FORCE AND STAND ON A BIGGER WORLD STAGE

If students have a great interest in a certain subject, they will put forward questions, start independent learning through observations, make further exploration, broaden a wider perspective, and stand on a bigger world stage.

Zhixuan from grade 9 has developed a strong interest in business competitions since he started to learn about it in 2020. With a great passion, he has devoted himself to the research of business competitions. He has participated in 9 business competitions in two years and advanced step by step.  In the junior high school group of the 2022 World Youth Economic Forum Finals, he led his team and achieved an excellent record of the bronze medal and five individual awards!

He has been actively advocating and promoting the development of the NACIS business competition team.

I hope that the NACIS secondary students who are interested in economics and business can form a business club together. We can keep learning and improving, while we participate in more competitions and achieve better results together.

Last week, the brand-new NACIS business competition school team held the first training session in the new school year. The "business elites" who have passed the test at various levels watched the video of the actual competitions in the past. They worked with each other and shared the tasks based on their interests and strengths. Zhixuan shared his experience of participating in competitions, and he felt more motivated because he had a group of like-minded teammates.

"It is really interesting to explore business and economics. Through competitions and study in the area, I have not only learned about the operation and social responsibility of companies, but also experienced the joy of teamwork and achievements. I think that no matter what major I will choose in the future, I will march forward with my original intention.”

Last Thursday, 44 students from grade 9 packed their bags and embarked on a three-day-two-night trip to Dianshan Lake under the leadership of six teachers including Mr. Christopher Pratt, Ms. Ellie Lingenfelder, and Ms. Sarah Butler, etc. It is a training for the official Duke of Edinburgh Expedition next March.

The 44 students participating in the expedition need to complete at least 7 hours of hiking and activities every day in independent groups. In addition, they were required to complete the learning tasks related to Skill and Service. Some students need study and judge the terrain and lead the team members to complete the journey, some observe the local culture and record everything along the way, and others need care for the changes in the psychological state of each member during the hiking process.

Bruce, who participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Expedition training for the first time, is a hiking and wildlife conservation enthusiast. He enjoyed the 34km journey very much because of his love for hiking and nature.

This is the first time we have been in the wild for such a long time independently. We have learned the skills of using camping equipment. We get together with the same passion for hiking and outdoor adventures. Even if we are exhausted with swollen and sore legs, we feel that it’s worth all of the efforts when we see the beautiful scenery.

Tim, Jessie and Deliths, who are in another two groups, are also satisfied with the expedition,

I have no experience in hiking before, but I like this activity. We encountered many difficulties, met many kind strangers, and discovered beautiful scenery along the way. All experiences make us become more resilient and inspire us to walk to the end and enjoy the fun of the journey together.

It is a great challenge for us to hike for 7 hours each day with 30 a backpack of nearly 30 jin. I want to give up for many times, but I gain the confidence to compete the expedition with the encouragement and help of my teammates.

e were cheering when we arrived at the terminal, as if we were not exhausted at all. We also found problems due to inadequate preparation. I forgot to bring my sleeping bag, but I still gained a sense of achievement during the expedition. I am looking forward to the next hike.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition is undoubtedly a transformative journey for students to reshape their interests and skills exercise. They participate in the challenging expedition with their research directions and learning tasks, so that they can develop problem solving ability, communication skill, cooperation skill and creativity, and gain a steady motivation for self-directed learning and exploration.

EXPLORE THE LIMITS OF SELF-GROWTH BASED ON INTERESTS

With a variety of school teams, students have the opportunity to devote themselves to their favorite fields. They like fighting on the fields and making efforts for the same goal with like-minded people. They also enjoy the trust and encouragement from their teammates, and the simplest and purest joy brought by sports.

Physical education not only enables students to have a strong physique, but also promotes them to mature physically and mentally, sharpens their positive and enterprising spirit, and helps them break through the limits of their potential.

Jayden has been inseparable with the swimming pool since he was two years old. It is normal for him to soak in the water for 3 hours a day regardless of winter or summer. Jayden started professional swimming training at the age of five. Now, he is in grade 6. However, he has been a professional swimmer for 7 years. Swimming has become an indispensable part of his life. We can see the light in his clear eyes when he talks about swimming:

I can gain the courage to break through my limits from swimming. I have never felt that it is hard to participate in trainings. When you really love the sport, you will be in a positive environment and become more professional without setting limits for future. Swimming has taught me to keep improving and surpassing myself, and hard work always pays off!

Last year, Jayden completed the 100-meter backstroke within 1 minute 16 seconds at the performance certification competition of USA Swimming Association. In one year, he has made a breakthrough on the backstroke within 1 minute 10 seconds and won the opportunity to participate in the 17th Shanghai Games (It is the highest-level and largest-scale comprehensive sports game and youth sports event held every four years). It is countless times of entering the water, swinging his arms, kicking his legs, rolling that he can make such a great achievement.

"I hope to win a gold medal in the games, but I also hope I can continue to explore my potential, break through myself, and widen the gap with other players.”

We believe that every NACIS child who is keen on sports like Jayden is making a new breakthrough with a new speed. They devote themselves to everything with 100% enthusiasm and perseverance and strive to be a tough and brave person.

During the competitions, we witness their passion, perseverance, and positivity, tenacity, and strength of not giving up. Everyone in the school teams has many aspects and areas of expertise. More importantly, they are "athletes" who dare to break through and go all out on the fields.

GAIN CONFIDENCE FROM INTERESTS AND CREATE MORE POSSIBILITIES FOR THE FUTURE

It is easy for the "artists" from our orchestra, choir, folk orchestra, and drama club to gain confidence and happiness on the NACIS stage.

We can always capture wonderful music and cheers in the theaters, piano rooms, and dance rooms after school every day and witness the birth of "art stars". Whether it is a drama performance on the official stage or thousands of daily rehearsals in the classrooms, NACIS is committed to creating a performance stage and atmosphere for every student who loves music, dance, and drama.

This year's musical "SpongeBob Musical" will premiere in December. Fairy, who loves musicals and performances, has not missed a single training since the beginning of the semester. Talking about the process of her entry into the "SpongeBob Musical" musical, she thought that it’s a small step after she joined NACIS, and she appreciated that NACIS gave her freedom of choice and confidence.

The casting and preparation for the "SpongeBob SquarePants" started last semester, but I joined NACIS this semester. When I told my form tutor and performing arts teacher that I would like to have a try, they helped me sincerely instead of rejecting me due to the limitations of the role.

In addition to musicals, Fairy also joined the school choir. She said that she loves acting and singing. Every time she stands on the stage, she can release herself and gain confidence under the spotlight.

In the future, NACIS will produce more performing arts works so that students can deepen their understanding of different cultures, and develop performing arts skills, self-confidence, and empathy through different art experience.

The world is changing rapidly, and some knowledge may be forgotten and eliminated over time, while the self-driving force, competence and self-confidence gained from interests will benefit students for life. The dimension of education and the path of growth will continue to expand and create more possibilities for the future.
