上海美达菲学校精彩课堂的主角是来自12AC的廖湘宁(Lynn)同学，Lynn是一位心思细腻，内心敏感的女孩，她的梦想是成为一位作家。写诗成为她生活中释放情感的一种方式，她说“诗是一种对生命的记录，也是一种爱的表达。”

The protagonist of this wonderful class is Lynn Liao from 12AC. Lynn is a delicate and sensitive girl with a dream of becoming a writer. Writing poetry became a way to release emotion in her life. "Poetry is a record of life and an expression of love," she said.

在一次中文课堂任务中，Lynn将自己的诗歌改编成了绘本，在一幅幅画面中再次感受到这位诗歌少女的无限魅力。

In a Chinese class assignment, Lynn adapted her poetry into a picture book, and once again felt the infinite charm of this poetic girl in one picture after another.

创作前提Premise of creation

作家曹文轩说，在我们的精神世界里有一堵白墙，在这上面智慧的人类以自己的雄心和造物者展开了竞赛，创造了可以与上帝创造的世界相媲美的另一个世界。

Writer Cao Wenxuan said that there is a white wall in our spiritual world, on which intelligent human beings compete with the creator with their ambition to create another world comparable to the one created by God.

莽明敏老师在课上教授学习小说的想象与虚构这一专题时，在“实践笃行”环节为同学们提出了一个“造梦”的任务——创作绘本，描绘一个属于自己的故事。

When teacher Mang Mingmin taught the topic of imagination and fiction in the class, she put forward a task of "dream making" for the students in the link of "practice and practice" -- to create a picture book to describe a story of their own.

Lynn的创作灵感 Inspiration for creation

认识蚯蚓有两个途径，一是在我们的生物课本上，那只拦腰截断还能复生的益虫；二是下雨天后，我们有时会在路边发现或是被压扁或是被晒干的棕黑色躯体。

There are two ways to know the earthworm, one is in our biology textbook, the waist cut off the beneficial worm can come back to life; Second, after a rainy day, we sometimes find squashed or dried brown-black bodies by the roadside.

后者的结果可想而知，即使它们死状不那么惨烈，雨停后还是难免奄奄一息，我见了于柏油路上挣扎的它们总会拿树枝挑回土壤中。此绘本改自我的诗歌作品《蚯蚓说》。既然蚯蚓离开土壤就会面临险境，它们又为什么每到雨天还是要爬出来呢？我抱有这样的怀疑写下这首诗，“召唤我的，也扼杀了我”。

The latter result is predictable. Even if they die in a less violent way, they are still dying when the rain stops. I have seen them struggling on the asphalt, always picking sticks back into the soil. This picture book changed my poetry work "Earthworm Said". If earthworms are at risk when they leave the soil, why do they crawl out every rainy day? I wrote this poem with this suspicion, "What calls me, also kills me."

显然这是因为我并不了解蚯蚓真正的想法。“世上只有一种英雄主义，就是在认清生活真相之后依然热爱生活。” 罗曼罗兰的这句话是我的人生信条之一。

Apparently this is because I don't know what an earthworm really thinks. "There is only one kind of heroism, is to recognize the truth of life and still love life." This quote from Romain Rolland is one of my tenets in life.

《蚯蚓的梦》比《蚯蚓说》更完善的诠释了什么叫做追梦人。“勇敢”并不是盲目，而是一种屡败屡战，当你得知了那个真相之后，当你知道了你这么做的后果，你还是愿意义无反顾地去冲。就好像故事中的蚯蚓，他的梦想是爬上地面，他渴望着雨水的滋润，他渴望着见到土壤之上这美丽多彩的世界，他觉得他的这个梦想要大于那个可能是悲剧的结果。所以，他愿意“为你，千千万万遍”，即使是心甘情愿地去死。所以蚯蚓其实是知道的，“召唤我的，也扼杀了我”，但他仍然心甘情愿地响应那个召唤，这就是我在这个绘本里要表达的。

"The Dream of an Earthworm" is a more complete interpretation of what is a dreamer than "The Earthworm Said". "Brave" is not blind, but a kind of repeated failure, when you know the truth, when you know the consequences of what you do, you are still willing to go without hesitation. Just like the earthworm in the story, his dream is to climb on the ground, he longs for the moistening of rain, he longs to see the beautiful and colorful world on the soil, he thinks his dream is bigger than the result which may be tragic. So he would die "for you a thousand times over," even if willingly. So the earthworm actually knows that "what calls me kills me", but he still answers the call willingly. This is what I want to express in this picture book.

这个任务让我充分看到了同学们成为“准造物者”的潜力，当同学们乘上造梦的船，以想象为帆，以虚构为桨，在创作的河流里长风破浪之时，廖湘宁的绘本故事《蚯蚓的梦》仿佛一只被灵感之光照亮的小船，穿越了“河的第三条岸”。勇敢的蚯蚓被走上地面的梦想召唤，不惜付出被现实扼杀的代价，这对于每一个在追梦的漫漫长路上努力前行的少年来说，又何尝不是一种鼓舞呢？

This task allowed me to fully see the potential of the students to become "quasi creators". When the students boarded the boat of making dreams, with imagination as the sail and fiction as the OARS, and broke the wind and waves in the river of creation, Liao Xiangning's picture story "The Dream of the Earthworm" was like a boat illuminated by the light of inspiration, crossing the "third bank of the river". The brave earthworm is called by the dream of walking on the ground, even at the cost of being strangled by reality, which is a kind of inspiration for every young man in the long way of pursuing his dream.

此外，近期Lynn的原创诗歌《Fallen Leaf》在2022 Youth writing competiton中获得了二等奖的好成绩。

Lynn is an excellent writer. There's a lot of emotional honesty in her work. She isn't afraid to express herself. She is especially strong at creating vivid and memorable images based on natural elements.

I asked Lynn to translate her work into English which was challenging for her but valuable to see it in a different language. It helped show up strengths and weaknesses. Then we practiced reading her work which was part of the competition. She needed to work on intonation and dramatic emphasis.

Lynn is a very sensitive and determined person. She knows what she wants to be in the future: a writer. Hopefully her success will encourage her to grow in confidence and creativity. China may have a wonderful new writer to celebrate soon!

Q1你的诗歌灵感大多都源于哪里？每次都是在怎样的心境下写下自己的作品？

Where do you get most of your poetry inspiration from? In what mood do you write your works each time?

Lynn：

我的创作一般源于自己的生活。个人生活经历、阅读过的作品、精神疾病、大自然、生命中每个精彩的瞬间，这些都作为我的取材对象。灵感来的时机很随性，我或是看见一轮月亮挂在树梢上，或是正浸泡在某种情绪里。我写下《落叶》的时候，还没被第二次疾病剥夺情感能力，那时我享受写长篇抒情诗，写作过程沉浸在情感与语言的交织里。诗是一种对生命的记录，也是一种爱的表达。

My creations are usually based on my own life. Personal experiences, books I've read, mental illness, nature, every wonderful moment in my life. Inspirations come at random times. I see a moon in the treetops, or I'm in the mood. When I wrote "Fallen Leaves," before I was emotionally disabled by my second illness, I enjoyed writing long lyric poems, immersing in the interweaving of emotion and language. Poetry is a record of life and an expression of love.

Q2可以简单介绍下那篇获奖作品《Fallen Leaf》吗？

Can you give a brief introduction to the award-winning work Fallen Leaf?

Lynn：《落叶》的创作基于我的一段单恋经历，一腔激情在所爱的对象那里得不到认可的时候，就只能往诗里抒发。少女纯洁的向往，在诗里被比喻为叶子对风的爱恋。从夏风给它带来第一缕清凉开始，风就这样一直吹拂着，滋润着它的心灵，直到秋天，它在生命尽头无怨无悔地被风带走。下一次看到秋风吹落枯叶的时候，你就可以停下脚步欣赏这凄美的舞蹈，那片叶子也许就怀着《落叶》这样一个故事。

The creation of "Fallen Leaves" is based on my experience of unrequited love. When my passion is not recognized by the object of love, it can only be expressed in the poem. The girl's pure yearning is compared to the leaf's love for the wind in the poem. From the summer breeze to bring it the first ray of cool start, the wind has been blowing, moistening its heart, until the autumn, it was taken away by the wind at the end of life without regrets. The next time you see the autumn wind blowing dead leaves, you can stop to enjoy the beautiful dance, and that leaf may be carrying such a story of "Fallen leaves".

Q3你向往的大学和专业是什么？未来想从事怎样的工作？

What is your desired university and major? What kind of job do you want to do in the future?

Lynn：我最向往的专业是创意写作（creative writing），这是一个为培养作家技能存在的专业。至于大学，我能去的最好最适合我的大学就是我向往的。未来希望从事创作行业，能靠作家职业养活自己是再理想不过的了，然而在这个数据娱乐时代，这一般也只是理想而已，所以我认为成为文学工作者、美术工作者或编剧都很好。

The major I aspire to most is creative writing, which is a major for developing the skills of writers. As for university, the best and most suitable university I can go to is the one I yearn for. In the future, I hope to work in the creative industry, and it is ideal to make a living from the career of a writer. However, in this era of digital entertainment, this is generally just an ideal, so I think it is good to become a literary worker, an artist or a screenwriter.

Lynn's writing is close to life, praises life, and makes people think. She can experience and feel what she has experienced again and again in her pen.
