深圳前海哈罗外籍人员子女学校（简称：哈罗深圳国际学校）自建校已经历三年时光。在家长中，有一个特别的群体——深圳哈罗国际学校创校家庭，他们不仅见证了哈罗深圳的建立，更参与了学校的共同成长。

近期我们专门采访了哈罗深圳六年级学生Ingrid的父母Shadiya女士和Ivan先生，请他们与我们分享Ingrid在过去三年里的成长体验。

Ingrid

Ingrid是哈罗深圳国际学校6年级的学生，也是自2020年便加入哈罗深圳的创校生。

与哈罗深圳国际学校共同成长的3年，Ingrid在英语和个人能力上都在不断成长。去年，她代表学校参与世界学者杯中国区比赛，获得了写作冠军少年组金牌、辩论冠军少年组金牌、冠军学者少年组奖杯、NEA演讲与戏剧认证考试、公众演讲优秀奖等多项殊荣。

Harrow International School, Shenzhen Qianhai (HIS Shenzhen) launched three years ago. Among the Harrow community there is a unique group called the Founding Parents. For those who joined Harrow Shenzhen from Day One, they have not only witnessed the School’s Grand Opening, but have also participated in its growth and development.

We’ve invited one of our founding family members, Shadiya and Ivan, parents of Ingrid Tang (Year 6 of Harrow Shenzhen), to  talk about the experience of witnessing their daughter’s growth at Harrow Shenzhen.

Ingrid

Ingrid is a Year 6 student at HIS Shenzhen and a founding student who has joined us since 2020.

During the past three years with the School, Ingrid has progressed in both English and personal competencies. Last year, she represented the school to take part in the World Scholar's Cup (China) and won Writing Champions Junior Gold Medal, Debate Champions Junior Gold Medal, Champion Scholars Junior Trophies, NEA Distinction Certificate of Public Speaking

and many other awards.

Q1 为什么选择哈罗深圳国际学校？

Why did you choose HIS Shenzhen?

爸爸：这要追溯到2020年了，Ingrid之前一直在香港接受教育，因为疫情我们不得不把Ingrid接回来读书。为了让Ingrid能够延续西方教育体系，在学业上做到无缝衔接，经过多方面的考察，我们觉得哈罗国际深圳是最好的选择。

妈妈：哈罗公学被誉为是世界上最负盛名的私立学府之一。哈罗深圳国际学校以英国哈罗公学450年的优良传统为准则，并以哈罗百年传承的四大价值理念作为教育核心——我们认为哈罗对于培养孩子的教育理念跟我们很相近，因此我们选择了哈罗。

Ivan: We applied to Harrow Shenzhen in 2020. Ingrid had been educated in Hong Kong before we transferred to the Chinese mainland. In order for Ingrid to continue in the Western education curriculum, we chose Harrow.

Shadiya: Harrow School in the UK is one of the world’s most respected private educational institutions. Harrow Shenzhen looks to the 450-year-old School for guiding principles, by placing four long-held Values at the very heart of its own educational ethos. We believe that Harrow's educational philosophy is very much in line with ours. Therefore, we chose Harrow.

Q2哈罗深圳与其他国际学校有什么不同之处?

What are the differences between 

HIS Shenzhen and other schools?

妈妈：我认为是全人教育。哈罗深圳非常重视全人教育的理念，关注学生的情感、社交需求，同时激发学生的学术潜能。学校一直鼓励Ingrid在校园内外都能全面发展，成为自信、活泼、专注的学习者。比如说，Ingrid参加竞选院舍主席，就是受到学校“领导力”理念的影响。她常常以她的院舍为荣，在各个活动中争取为院舍赢得最大荣誉。除此之外，Ingrid还参加了世界学者杯和哈佛的初中辩论大赛；这两个比赛都是团体赛，她必须跟她的队友做最好最棒的配合，从而尽全力拿到最大的荣誉。

爸爸：哈罗深圳不是一个传统、应试、只注重成绩的地方，更重视的是学生的全面发展。我觉得哈罗深圳国际学校是一所开放式的、鼓励孩子勇于探索的地方。这是跟别的国际学校不一样的地方。

Shadiya: The biggest difference between Harrow and other international schools is Holistic Education.  Harrow Shenzhen values holistic education for all young people, where students’ emotional and social needs as well as academic needs are cared for. The School encourages Ingrid to develop as a well-rounded, confident, active and engaged learner - both within the classroom and beyond. For example, Ingrid was inspired and encouraged to compete for House Captain by Harrow Leadership prospective. She’s always been proud of her House and strived to win the House points for great honor.  For example, Ingrid competes in the World Scholars Cup and the Harvard Junior Debating Competition - both of which are a team collaboration where she has to do her best with her teammates in order to strive for excellence.

Ivan: Harrow Shenzhen is not defined as a traditional, exam-oriented school that merely focuses on academic grades, but more on student’s overall development. I think Harrow is a very open place that encourages children to explore, which is how it differentiates from other International Schools.

Q3 Ingrid 来哈罗深圳以后有哪些改变？

Do you see Ingrid making any 

progress at HIS Shenzhen?

妈妈：Ingrid和哈罗深圳一起成长的这三年，英文有了非常显著的进步。从我个人感受来看，在所有的国际学校当中，哈罗深圳国际学校的英文教学是数一数二的。学校并不是为了让孩子考英文而教英文；相反，它让孩子沉浸到整体的英文环境里面，因为能更好的使用英文，各学科的学习、理解和课堂内外的活动都变得更加生动而有趣了！

例如，孩子通过英语和戏剧课学习莎士比亚的诗，图书馆课也鼓励同学们多方面的阅读，开发学生自主运用英文的能力，将英语熟练地运用到日常生活和学习中。现阶段,她的阅读能力已达到中学12/13年级的水平, 可以阅读George Orwell的《动物庄园》这本书了。我想这很大的帮助是来自于学校的老师对于英文教学的经验与深耕。这是Ingrid进入哈罗之后的一个非常大的进步和变化。

爸爸：我觉得很重要的一点是，哈罗帮助Ingrid在学习英文的过程中建立起她自己的观点和判断力。Ingrid在这个年纪能具备这个判断力、从不同角度来看同一件事情，不依赖于老师提供的单一答案，而是基于她自己学的东西建立起自己的观点，我觉得这个对于孩子的成长来说是非常重要的。

Shadiya: I have witnessed a remarkable improvement in Ingrid's English in the past three years she spent at Harrow. Among all the international schools, Harrow Shenzhen's English teaching is at the top. Harrow does not teach English for exams; Instead, it provides children with an immersive English environment.

Shadiya: For example, Harrow teaches Shakespeare's poems, encourages reading in a wide range of styles, and develops the ability to improve English proficiency in daily life. Currently Ingrid’s English reading ability has reached Grade 12/Year 13. She's able to read the Animal Farm written by George Orwell. This is excellent progress resulting from great help from the School’s English teachers.

Ivan: It is important that Harrow helps Ingrid develop her own point-of-view, when learning English. I think it's very crucial for a child to have that sense of judgment at this age, to look at the same thing from different angles, not to rely on a single answer from a teacher, but to build her own opinion based on what she's learned.

04对未来将要加入哈罗大家庭的学生和家长们有什么建议吗？

What do you want to say to  students/parents who are joining 

the HIS Shenzhen family?

妈妈：我想说的是，各位想要加入哈罗大家庭的家长，不要太紧张或焦躁。把心态放平和，紧密地跟学校配合。学校管理团队的风格是公开透明的，我们能够跟校长、班主任、学科老师面对面交流或通过邮件沟通；哈罗深圳国际学校的老师们也非常好。欢迎来到这个大家庭，在这里你们会感到自豪、荣耀、有归属感。

Shadiya: I would like to share with all the parents who want to join Harrow family to not be nervous or anxious; Instead, please keep calm and work closely with the School. The Harrow leadership team is very open-minded and transparent. We can communicate with the Heads, principal, teachers  either face to face or email. The Harrow teachers are very good. Welcome to this big family that you would feel proud of being part of. Thank you.
