01PBL- Advocacy for Animals

我们规划了我们的PBL项目——Advocacy for Animals - Learning to Give，一个基于同理心的跨学科项目，帮助学校所在地区苏州动物保护协会（SAPA）的狗狗收容所。

我们的学者通过多种方式与收容所互动：

● 英语 学者们将创作一个多媒体新闻项目，以帮助宣传推广，说服人们支持收容所；

● CDI 学者们正在建造未来狗狗收容所的模型，以锻炼他们的建筑方面的技能；

● 艺术 学者们正在准备一场慈善艺术拍卖会以筹集资金；

● 音乐 学者们正在谱曲，将在1月展出；

● 体育 希望通过体育活动，让学者们了解其对提高某项事情的认识和影响力的贡献，并募集资金；

……

02 PBL募集善款 “Middle School Olympics”

每门课程都有自己的计划，初中学部的每位学者都会参与其中的一部分。

11月19日我们举行了第一次筹款活动，“Middle School Olympics”在学校举行。我们年轻的运动员希望通过参加这项比赛，扩大狗狗收容的影响力，并为其筹集资金。我们希望大家可以参入我们。但是由于疫情，家长入校受到限制，我们正在寻求进一步的替代方案。尽管如此，我们仍然要为我们运动员所付出的努力表示敬意，感谢他们举行了这项比赛。

03PBL帮助学者更好地融入社会

项目式教学（Project-Based Learning）对教师来说是在有意义的实践中检验学习情况的一种工具，可以创造出超越考试与测验的真实体验。我们的老师需要创造解决现实问题的场景，我们的学者需要解决复杂的任务，这些任务需要调研、合作，并创作一个作品来展示给真实的观众。

PBL可以帮助学者融入社会，让他们能够练习未来在大学和工作中受到重视的技能和能力，比如解决非结构化的问题、协作、与他人良好地沟通等。

项目式教学（PBL）的宏观教学结构给予学者发言权和选择权，让他们在团队协作中发挥自主权和能动性，培养社会情感学习（SEL）的能力。

在PBL单元的驱动问题中融入德育内容，让学者们有额外的动力来专门讨论他们工作中道德伦理的影响，并学习如何表达他们对特定主题的感受，与此同时，建立他们自己的道德观。项目需求的重点是通过同理心完成的，我们PBL的单元课程和评估侧重于解决现实世界的真实问题。学者们参与动手项目的重点是建立同理心，提出他们的想法，并鼓励他们积极解决问题。

01PBL- Advocacy for Animals

We have framed our PBL Advocacy for Animals - Learning to Give around creating an empathy based cross curricular unit to help assist SAPA（Suzhou Animal Protection Association） the largest dog shelter in the area. 

Our scholars are interacting with the shelter in a number of ways. 

Our English scholars are creating a multimedia journalism project to help inform and persuade people to assist the shelter.

Our CDI scholars are building models of a future dog shelter to practice their architecture skills.

Our Art scholars are preparing a charity art auction to raise money. 

Our Music scholars are composing apiece for the January PBL showcase. 

And to kick it all off our PE department are helping scholars learn the impact of physical activity and its contribution to raising awareness for a cause.

02PBL Fundraising：“Middle School Olympics”

Each course has its own plan. All middle school scholars will at least do part of it.

On November 19th our Middle School scholars participated in our "Middle School Olympics", their first fundraising drive.In this event our young athletes were hoping to compete and raise both money and awareness for the cause. We hoped that you could join us at the event but due to the COVID situation we are trying to find alternative methods of parental participation. With that said we would still like to honor the hard work our athletes have put in, and cannot wait to start this track and field event.

03PBL Practice Skills and Competencies

Project-Based Learning is a tool used by teachers to demonstrate mastery of learning in meaningful work, to create authentic experiences that go beyond tests and quizzes. Our teachers are creating real-world problem-solving situations, where our scholar s are tasked to solve complex tasks that require research, collaboration, and the creation of an artifact to present to an authentic audience.

PBL allows scholars to practice skills and competencies that are valued in college and work, and promote successful engagement in civic life. These include solving unstructured problems, collaborating, and communicating well with others.

The macro teaching structure of project-based learning (PBL) addresses Social Emotional Learning competencies directly, as it gives scholars the voice and choice to exercise their autonomy and agency within their collaborative teams.

Framing a PBL unit’s driving question with an ethical component gives scholars the additional impetus to explicitly discuss the ethical implications of their work and to learn how to articulate their feelings about a particular topic and, in so doing, develop a sense of what defines their sense of morality. Key emphasis on needs is done through the lens of empathy, our curriculum and assessment for these units focuses on solving real-world problems. Scholars engage in hands-on projects that focus on building empathy, suggesting ideation and encouraging active problem solving.
