In the CIE A-Level Mathematics and IGCSE Physics exams, Xiao Xueqian, A student from Shanghai MacDuffie Grade 10 MEP Class, has achieved 93 and 97 points respectively. First of all, congratulations on getting nearly full marks in the Cambridge Grand Examination. As an IGCSE student, you not only got A * in PHYSICS IG, but also got an A in Mathematics A-level. Could you share your learning method with us?

我的学习方法分为两种，在学校学习和自学。在学校的学习中，听课时一定要专注，笔记一定要做得完整，课后的复习一定要及时认真，这样才能达到最好的效果。这也是我周围大多数同学都能做好的一部分。

My learning methods are divided into two kinds, studying at school and self-study. In school study, we must pay attention to lectures, make complete notes and review after class in time and seriously, so as to achieve the best effect. This is also the part that most of the students around me can do well.

同时，自主学习能力也很重要。自学的时候我一般会以教科书为主，教学视频为辅，遇到复杂或无法理解的概念时，我会向学校的老师求助来获得一些思路。自学中以理解为主，再加上一些练习题的辅助。另外网上还可以找到很多相关的视频，上面的视频既可以当作复习资源也可以当作学习新知识的资源。

At the same time, the ability to learn independently is also very important. When I study independently, I usually take textbooks as the mainstay and teaching videos as the supplement. When I encounter complicated or incomprehensible concepts, I will consult teachers at school for help to get some ideas. Self-study focuses on understanding, with the help of some exercises. In addition, there are many related videos on the Internet, which can be used as a review resource or as a resource for learning new knowledge.

在学习中遇到困难的时候，你是如何解决的？

How did you deal with the difficulties you encountered in your study?

肖学谦

在学习中遇到困难时，我一般会先自己认真思考，如果认真思考了两三遍之后仍然无法解决，我会找同学讨论，与同学讨论之后能得出答案是最好的，讨论之后也毫无思路我便会向老师求助，向老师询问解题思路。

When I encounter difficulties in study, I usually think carefully by myself first. If I still cannot solve the problem after two or three times of careful thinking, I will discuss with my classmates. It is the best that I can get an answer after discussing with my classmates.

我记得有一次遇到了一道很难的数学题，我自己的思路被题目限制住了，与同学讨论之后获得了新的想法，很快就把题目解出来了。合理地运用学校的资源可以很快提升自己的实力。

I remember once I was faced with a difficult math problem, and my thinking was restricted by the problem. After discussing with my classmates, I got new ideas and solved the problem quickly. Reasonable use of school resources can quickly improve their own strength.

你觉得要在剑桥大考中取得好成绩，关键是什么？

What do you think is the key to doing well in the Cambridge exams?

要取得较好的成绩，一个详细完善的时间计划是必不可少的。在这几年的学习过程中，我们一定要弄清楚某个时间段应该完成什么任务，按SMART原则定好截止日期和完成标准。“凡事预则立”，我把每周的任务都写下来，做的过程中随时check。计划做得完善就不会导致后面非常匆忙。

To get good grades, A detailed and complete plan is essential. During these years of study, we must make clear what tasks should be completed in a certain period of time and set deadlines and completion standards according to SMART principles. As a saying goes, "Everything is done beforehand." I write down my weekly tasks and check them at any time during the process. Well-planned plans don't lead to a rush later.

取得好的成绩还需要稳定扎实的学科基础，就像在IGCSE阶段，一定要打好基础使后面的A-Level阶段变得轻松一些。

Achieving good grades also requires a solid academic foundation, as doing well in the IGCSE makes A-levels studies easier.

我非常感谢学校的帮助，非常感谢刘相涛校长与老师们在我备考期间的帮助。每当我有疑问的时候，我都可以很快地从学校的老师那里获得解答思路，知识的脉络会变得更清晰。学校也给我提供了很多复习资料与科学的学习方法，学校的老师帮我补上了学习中的漏洞，改善了学习中理解错误的地方。

I am very grateful to the school for the help. I am very grateful to Principal Liu Xiangtao and the teachers for their help during my preparation period. Whenever I have questions, I can quickly get answers from teachers at school, and the context of knowledge will become clearer. What major do you want to study in the future? Do you have a target school?

我日后想选择A-Level 课程，将来的目标是申请英国的G5大学并冲刺英国最好的牛津与剑桥大学，想申请与生物或化学有关的专业。我对这两个专业有浓厚的兴趣，但是路漫漫其修远兮，对我来说也有很大的挑战。我相信，在学校的教导和我的努力下，我一定能获得自己想要的人生！

I want to choose A-level courses in the future. In the future, my goal is to apply for G5 universities like Oxford or Cambridge universities, the best universities in the UK. I want to apply for majors related to biology or chemistry. I have a strong interest in these two majors, but there is a long way to go, and there are also great challenges for me. I believe that under the guidance of the school and my efforts, I will be able to get the life I want!

大家好，我自从2002年首次接触A level课程就下定决心从事一种不同的数学教学，到今天我已经在教学的讲台上和孩子们一起度过了二十年美好的时光。我慢慢研究教学方法，熟悉教学大纲，把数学教学体系内各个模块建立联系，渐渐摸索出了一条比较适合国内学生的教学方法，也取得了不错的成绩，我亲手培养了多位同学考取了世界名校，例如牛津和剑桥大学。

Hello, I have been teaching a-level mathematics since 2002, and till now I have spent twenty wonderful years on the teaching platform with children. I gradually studied the teaching methods, got familiar with the teaching syllabus, established connections among various modules in the mathematics teaching system, and gradually explored a teaching method suitable for domestic students, which also achieved good results. 肖学谦同学在十年级来到上海美达菲读书。当时班上正在学习IGCSE的附加数学，他已经学完并考完了IGCSE数学，因此学校给他特别安排了定制化的教学，让他学习Alevel数学。这位同学的学习习惯非常好：首先，有非常明确的学习目标；其次，有清晰的学业规划；另外就是极强的时间管理、自主管理能力。

Xiao Xueqian came to Shanghai MacDuffie to study in Grade 10. At that time, the class was studying the additional mathematics of IGCSE, and he had already completed the mathematics of IGCSE, so the school arranged for him to learn A-level mathematics as a customized course. This student's learning habits are very good. First, he has a very clear learning goal. Secondly, he has a clear academic plan; Also he is good at time management and self-management.

In learning mathematics, Xiao is interested in mathematics, and often finds difficult topics to think deeply about, and often puts forward his own different ideas. 给肖学谦同学讲课是一种知识的享受。我给他提前布置预习任务，他自主学习，利用教材并结合网上的学习资源发现困惑和问题。课上，我先让他讲给我听，我在听讲的过程中，发现问题让他暂停，和他进一步探讨，启发他思考，而不直接告诉他结果。通过这种启发引导的方式，我逐渐让他养成善于思考、批判看待各个问题的习惯，将知识的掌握建立在自主的探索发现上。

Teaching Xiao Xueqian is kind of intellectual enjoyment. I assigned him a preview task in advance, and he studied independently and found problems by using textbooks and online learning resources. In class, I first asked him to talk to me. In the process of listening, I found some problems and asked him to pause. I discussed with him further and inspired him to think, rather than telling him the result directly. Through this way of inspiration and guidance, I gradually made him develop the habit of thinking and critically looking at various problems, and based his knowledge on independent exploration and discovery.

我有5年以上的CIE课程教学经验，所教学班级目前A率超90%。我能根据学生情况进行分层次教学，因材施教，让各个层次的学生都能学有所获。我先后培养了众多进入 UCL、LSE 等世界名校的学生。课余我为学生创造动手实践机会，将实践与理论相结合，培养学生团队协作能力以及动手创新力，不定期开展大型室外物理实践活动。

I have more than 5 years of teaching experience in CIE courses, and the A rate of my classes is over 90%. I can teach at different levels according to the student's situation, so that students at all levels can learn something. I have trained many students who have entered the world famous universities such as UCL and LSE. After school, I create hands-on practice opportunities for students, combine practice with theory, cultivate students' teamwork ability and hands-on innovation, and carry out large-scale outdoor physical practice activities from time to time.

第一，肖同学思维敏捷，经常可以举一反三，将知识点快速融会贯通，可以快速掌握新知；第二，面对不懂的问题往往不会第一时间就寻求老师帮助，而是自己独立思考，思考后向老师咨询该题中的关键点，这样的习惯能快速锻炼提升他的物理逻辑思维，也是他获得优异成绩的一大关键点。

First, Xiao is quick in thinking and can often draw inferences from one example to another. He can quickly digest knowledge points and grasp new knowledge. Secondly, he would not seek help from the teacher at the first time when faced with problems he did not understand. Instead, he would think independently and consult the teacher for the key points in the problem after thinking. This habit can quickly improve his physical logic thinking, which is also a key point for him to obtain excellent results.

肖同学对自己的要求极高，有非常高的自律性，经常深夜还在寝室里挑灯夜战，白天课间或自习时间也在钻研。十一假期，肖同学也做好了时间规划，制定了详细的复习计划，那几天，我时不时会收到他的微信，询问个别难题的思路。正所谓皇天不负有心人，他的成功必然离不开他背后的辛勤付出！

Xiao has very high requirements for himself and has very strict self-discipline. He often burns the midnight oil in the dormitory and studies during the daytime during class or self-study time. During the National Day holiday, Xiao also planned his time and made a detailed review plan. In those days, I would receive his WeChat message from time to time, asking for ideas about some difficult problems.
