Frost has fallen on the leaves, the rice by the river has matured, and farmers are busy harvesting. Teachers and students from our primary school walked onto the rice fields near the school to watch the harvest and pick up ears of rice.
It's sunny in the fields in this early winter activity. Students watched with interest as the harvester rumbled by and the yellow rice was continuously loaded into the carriage. The students and the farmers together experienced the joy of a bumper harvest.
What can rice ears be used for? How can the tools around us be used to grind rice? What delicacies can be made from rice?
Second grade children learn about our staple food by watching, smelling, touching and playing.
Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 learn about and experience the precious cultural inheritance of rice by looking, reading, writing and teaching.
